A worker at the Foster Farms chicken-processing plant in Southwest Washington State was hospitalized after getting caught in a cleaning machine.
Gary Garza got caught in the cleaning machine last Friday morning, February 25, 2005. Foster Farm said in a news release that Mr. Garza's arm and head were affected from the accident. The specifics of the injuries were not disclosed by the company.
According to the company, Mr. Garza was taking part in a routine cleaning when he was injured in the machine. No details were provided as to how the accident occurred or whether Mr. Garza was at fault for the accident.
Mr. Garza was airlifted by helicopter to Oregon Health Science University Hospital in Portland. He was initially listed in critical condition on Friday. His condition was later upgraded to serious, as reported by the Longview Daily News. Mr. Garza remains in the intensive-care unit, however the hospital declined to release any details about his condition.
