Tree Smashes Into Logger's Head, Logger Survives

November 10, 2005

Owen, 28, was working on October 6th when a tree suddenly smashed into his head. He is a logger for Larsents' Timber Management Resources in Forks.

Owen and his father were preparing to load up a group of uprooted trees when one of the snag trees became caught and smashed into the back of his head.

He was airlifted to a hospital in Seattle where doctors treated him for a broken jaw, a fractured skull, and a damaged eye socket. According to doctors, he also sustained broken bones in his right hand as well as three compressed vertebrae.

Owen's boss, Pete Larson, was quick to show his remorse over the incident and made an appearance at Harborview to visit Owen. With him, he brought a special gift to liven his spirits, Owen's paycheck along with a $1,000 bonus.

The family has received numerous donations from other residents and members of their church. Owen's medical bills are covered mostly by the State Department of Labor and Industries.
