One Electrical Worker Killed, One Injured In Renton

March 23, 2006

One electrical worker was killed and another was injured while working at an underground vault in Renton.

Fire Department Lieutenant Larry Welch says a 24-year-old man from Grangeville, Idaho, was electrocuted when he came in contact with high-voltage wires.

Welch says another worker, a 41-year-old man, used an insulated blanket to grab the man and pull him out of the hole.

Welch says that one person was dead at the scene.

The other worker suffered burns on his arms and hands and was treated at Valley Medical Center.

Puget Sound Energy says the men work for a contractor, the Potelco company of Sumner. Their names have not yet been released.

The accident took place about 11:30 last night near the intersection of Seventh and Rainier Avenue.
