Pickup And Van Collide, 4 Injured

January 4, 2006

Police shut down the highway following an accident that left four people injured early on Friday morning

Police responded to the crash which occurred at about 6 a.m. on the Auburn-Enumclaw Road at Southeast 408th Street outside Enumclaw near the White River Amphitheatre.

According to a spokesman for the Washington State Patrol, the driver of a Plymouth Voyager was headed east on 408th St when it did not stop at a stop sign and drove directly into cross-traffic at Auburn-Enumclaw Road. The oncoming traffic had the right of way.

The driver of the van smashed his vehicle directly into a full-sized pickup truck.

The driver of the van and the passenger riding in the front were taken to the hospital to be treated for life-threatening injuries, said an officer from the State Patrol.

A third passenger in the van, as well as the driver of the pickup truck, sustained less serious injuries but both were taken to the hospital.

Rescue crews had to use the Jaws of Life to free the driver of the van and helicopters took him to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

Police are still investigating the accident but the road opened at about 8:30 a.m.
