A man hit by a Tacoma fire truck last week has been identified as Richard Churchill, 76, of Tacoma. Churchill was pronounced dead on Friday at Tacoma General Hospital of injuries sustained in the Sept. 15 accident.
Firefighters in the truck were driving to service their portable radios at a local communications center when the accident happened at 12:30 p.m. last Thursday.
Churchill was walking east on South Fourth Street when the truck turned from South Fourth Street onto South Fawcett Avenue and hit him.
A spokeswoman from the Fire Department has expressed their sadness and concern over the accident.
An official investigation is in progress by the Tacoma police. There will also be a secondary investigation when they are done by the fire department.
