Just after 11 p.m. on January 25, 2005 Seattle police officers responded to an incident at the Broadway restaurant after learning that an assault had just taken place.
The officers were flagged down by the restaurant manager as the officer were approaching the restaurant. According to the restaurant manager, an unidentified man in his early 30s had come into the restaurant and begun acting very strange. The man was talking inappropriately to customers, and at one point, walked up to the counter and began eating and drinking from dirty dishes which were waiting to be washed.
According to the restaurant manager, the manager approached the man and asked him to leave. The man ignored the request and proceeded to walk to the bar area of the restaurant, where the bartender asked him to leave. The man ignored the bartender's request as well.
The man allegedly walked into the dining area, wherein he picked up a pepper shaker and began shaking the pepper shaker onto a customer's head. As the manager aggressively told the man that he had to leave, the man began slowly walking to the front door, as if he was planning to leave.
As the man approached the front door, the man apparently grabbed a phone from the front desk and tore it from its mounting. The man then threw the phone at the manager. He started yelling and swearing incoherently, eventually lunging at the manager. The man then started kicking the front door and pounding on window glass in an apparent effort to break it before walking out of the restaurant. It is unclear whether the manager was injured as a result of the attack.
The man then walked out of the restaurant and started pounding on a car's back window while the car was stopped at a traffic light. The man was standing on the sidewalk across the street from the restaurant when officers arrived. He was easily identified by the manager as well as other witnesses and was placed into custody without further incident. He was later booked into King County Jail.
There was no information as to whether the man was mentally ill or was intoxicated at the time of the incident. The amount of property damage to the restaurant was not disclosed.
