Motorist Injures Bicyclist

November 10, 2005

A 58-year-old motorist is being brought up on charges of vehicular assault and felony hit-and-run after he critically injured a bicyclist on Willows Road in Redmond.

According to police, the driver hit the bicyclist and then left the scene on foot while stripping himself half-naked.

According to the official court documents filed in King County Superior Court yesterday, the accident occurred on Sunday after Steven Edward Riedel of Redmond swerved across the road and crashed his car into a group of bicyclists.

The victim of the accident was a 54-year-old woman who was pinned under his vehicle and was dragged for several feet.

The woman sustained critical injuries and is recovering in an intensive-care unit at Harborview Medical Center. Her condition had not been made available.

Riedel, who prior to this incident had no known criminal history, was court ordered to be held in lieu of $100,000 bail.
