The victim of a two-vehicle accident has been identified as Cadian Colbert Hendricks, 56, of Port Hadlock. Hendricks' wife was also severely injured in the accident which occurred on Tuesday.
The two-car accident happened at around 8:22 p.m. on State Route 20 just three miles from Port Townsend.
Hendricks was in a 1987 Dodge Dakota headed south when he began veering over the line. He crossed into the northbound lane and into the path of a 2005 Chevrolet truck.
The driver of the Chevrolet was John Hogan, 42, of Westport. Hogan's truck was turned over onto its side, totaling it, and he suffered a foot injury.
According to rescue crews, the passenger in the Dakota, Sylvia J. Hendricks, 55, suffered major trauma. The crews had to use extrication equipment in order to free the woman from the mangled wreck. They had to remove the door and open the dashboard.
Ambulances took Sylvia Hendricks to the Jefferson Healthcare hospital in Port Townsend, where doctors listed her in stable condition. Her husband was pronounced dead at the scene. She was later transferred to a trauma center.
Cleanup crews had to pick through the mess of the totaled Dakota to clean up the scene. There was wood all over the road that was launched from the bed of the pickup.
Police closed the highway in both directions while they pulled the survivors from the wreckage. A helicopter would have been used to rescue Sylvia but the foggy conditions made it impossible for it to land. Crews from the Fire Department were on site to rescue them.
