Seattle Auto Accident Kills One

June 6, 2005

Two southbound lanes of I-5 at Marysville, Washington have reopened as crews clean up after a fatal accident.

The Washington State Patrol says an SUV going the wrong way about 1 a.m. collided head-on with a semi-truck.

The truck carrying a load of cardboard bales caught fire and burned for more than three hours.

The driver of the SUV - a 37-year-old Mount Vernon man - died at the scene. The driver of the truck escaped serious injury and was taken to a hospital in Everett.

Trooper Lance Ramsay said that the debris and wreckage spread over hundreds of yards and was one of the worst accidents he's seen in 14 years.
