Metal Pin Flies Through Car Windshield, Kills Woman On Highway

September 1, 2005

Washington State Troopers are still searching for the driver responsible for causing a deadly accident in North Central Washington.

The accident happened Tuesday afternoon on Highway 97 south near Okanogan.

68-year old Doris Heneghen of Omak was killed while driving

when a piece of metal flew off a northbound vehicle, flew through her windshield and hit her in the head.

The object was a big metal pin that authorities believe came off a piece of heavy equipment that was either being hauled down the road or someone had left it on a flatbed trailer and it fell off he said.

They have begun asking around at different construction companies.

The woman's car looked as if somebody had shot at it because her rear window was blasted out.
