Head-on Collision Kills Five Children

November 30, 2005

A collision last week left five Chewelah children dead and brought 1,400 people together to mourn them at the funeral on Monday.

The children's father was driving when his truck collided head-on with another pickup while driving on U.S. Highway 395. The man was present at the funeral with assistance from hospital personnel.

The children's mother, Carolyn Schrock, stated that she forgave the driver of the other pickup. She has already met the man twice in his hospital room at the Spokane Medical Center where he was treated for injuries sustained in the accident.

Jeffrey Schrock is still in recovery following the accident that left him with serious injuries.

Schrock was driving on Highway 395 when the other truck came across the median, crossed over the highway, and then corrected to come straight into the path of their truck. Police investigators have not found any indication that alcohol or any other medical problem might have caused the accident.

They are still trying to investigate what happened.

The deceased children all range in age from 2 to 12 years.
