Car Crash On Highway 99 Takes One Life, Injures Two

October 31, 2005

Saturday and Sunday of this weekend saw two accidents less than a mile apart on Highway 99 south of Everett which resulted in the death of one man and a life-threatening injury for another.

At about 10:15 p.m. on Saturday, a man was killed as he was driving at Highway 99 at Russell Way when his car was struck by another that veered over the centerline, the State Patrol said.

The man, whose name has not been made public pending notification of his next of kin, was headed south when the accident occurred.

The car coming from the opposite direction was driven by a 22-year-old Everett woman who crossed the centerline, hit the man's car, and also collided with another, according to the State Patrol.

The man was killed instantly in the accident, but a 3-year-old boy riding in the same car was rushed To Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. His condition was still not known on Sunday.

The Everett woman as well as the driver of the other vehicle she had hit did not sustain any injuries.

The State Patrol believes that the accident was caused because the woman was not paying attention to the road. Charges were pending as of Sunday.

In an accident reported on Sunday at about 2:30 p.m., a man headed south on Highway 99 at Airport Road ran into a concrete divider and lost control of his car.

The car made contact with another vehicle which was turning left from westbound Airport Road onto southbound Highway 99, according a spokesman from the State Patrol.

The driver of the first car, whose name was not released, was airlifted by helicopter to Harborview. Doctors had not released his condition as of Sunday.

The two passengers in the other car were not injured. The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
