The I-5 north of Arlington was closed for almost two hours while rescue crews cleaned up the scene of an accident involving several cars. The northbound lanes were finally reopened at about 5 p.m.
According to a spokesman from the Washington State Troopers, a motorist hit a slick patch in a rainstorm just close to Pilchuck Creek and lost control of his car
Witnesses reported that amidst all the rain, hail, and snow, the sun broke through all of sudden. Police believe that the sudden sunshine caused a chain reaction accident by blinding drivers on the freeway.
At the end of the accident, a total of 30 cars were counted as being involved. One car was even discovered on top of another.
