Car Accident Kills Family Of Three

A truck driver is facing charges from the State Highway Patrol after an accident left a young family dead.

The semi-truck came to rest on the small Toyota after crashing into the car from behind. The driver of the Toyota, Maria Diaz, 22, of Mattawa, had just turned onto highway 243 when the accident happened.

Karla Diaz, 9 months old, died at the scene. Maria as well as her older daughter, 23 month old Briselda, died later on at Central Washington Hospital.

According to troopers, the driver of the semi-truck, Mark Nesbit of Spokane, had fallen asleep at the wheel when he struck the car.
